Three hooded men hunched over an old computer in a dark, cluttered basement – a still from the Programistok 2016 music video

Programistok is a tech conference in Białystok, run by the city’s developer communities. In 2016 I was on the organising team, and that year’s edition took place on 1 October.

To promote it we shot a music video meant to prove that programming isn’t boring. Developers and organisers played “positively pushing dev hooligans”, and the clip strings together two songs: “Coders Paradise” and “Kodzić chcę” (roughly “I wanna code”).

What I did

  • script, with Mateusz Andrzejewski, Robert Matyszewski and Krzysiek Ruczaj
  • direction, with Mateusz Andrzejewski
  • camera and editing
  • electronics (that’s how the credits put it)
  • lyrics for “Coders Paradise”, where I also rap alongside Maciej “Dziemian” Dziemiańczuk. Mateusz Andrzejewski wrote “Kodzić chcę”, and Dziemian recorded the audio.

The video went up on YouTube on 5 September 2016. The next day NowyMarketing, a Polish marketing magazine, featured it as its “Ad of the Day”, calling it an unusual way to promote a developer conference. The songs were also released on streaming platforms under the Programistok name. The video now has more than 117,000 views on YouTube.

Live

Dziemian and I also played a live set at the after-party in Herkulesy club.
