Natalia Rak's mural of a girl watering a bare tree from a watering can, with the hashtags #kwiatkultury and #igersbialystok

On 22 November 2013 I started IgersBialystok, the Białystok chapter of Instagramers, an international network of local mobile photography communities; the Polish groups gather around IgersPoland. I founded the group and ran it.

#kwiatkultury

In April 2014 we invited people to a shared project. Next to Natalia Rak’s mural of a girl watering a tree from a can stands a real tree. We asked everyone to photograph it every day and post the shots on Instagram tagged #kwiatkultury and #igersbialystok. Each photo counted as a symbolic watering, and the project would run until the tree was fully green.

In June we cut nearly 50 of those photos into a short film. IgersPoland called it the first community-made timelapse in Poland.

Instameets

The group also ran instameets, photo walks for people who share their pictures on Instagram. IgersPoland lists the WWIM13 instameet in April 2016, part of the 13th Worldwide InstaMeet, among its highlights.

Numbers

The last post on the account went up in December 2018. By IgersPoland’s 2019 count, the profile had 26 posts and 331 followers, while the #igersbialystok hashtag had been used on 10,755 posts.
